FSSAI stands for “Food Safety and Standards Authority of India”.
This certification has been constituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on various food business activities. FSSAI is formed to keep a single contract for all food operators in India.
The main role and responsibility of FSSAI is to make sure all the rules and laws related to food are being followed by all Food Business Operators (FBO).
There are three main categories in which the FSSAI Registration / License has been divided:
1. Basic Registration: For the businesses having a turnover less than 12 Lac annually.
2. State License: For the businesses having a turnover between 12 Lac to 20 Cr annually.
3. Central License: For the businesses having a turnover more than 20 Cr annually.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under Food Safety and Standards, 2006 which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food related issues in various Ministries and Departments. FSSAI has been created for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
